Nic Petry: Founder & Executive Director, NYC

Dancing Camera's founder is a professional dancer with The Bang Group. His nuanced approach to musicality, aesthetics, and rhythm highly inform both his work in dance as well as film. He graduated from Princeton University, where he majored in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and received a certificate in Dance. He attended the University of Illinois, where he received his M.F.A and taught courses on Dance for Camera, editing, and camera techniques.

 
Julie Rooney, Associate Editor

Julie Rooney: Director, Denver

Julie Rooney received her MFA in video and performance from the University of Colorado at Boulder and her BA in video from DePauw University. An active musician and performance artist, Julie has a documentation style that draws from lyricism, fine art, and experimental film, which she has used to produce dance for camera art films, show content, and documentation. 

 

Tom Balsewich: Camera Operator

Thomas A. Balsewich II is an independent writer, producer and lighting designer based in NYC. Throughout the years of seasoning his craft, Thomas has also had the opportunity to work on the Late Show w/ David Letterman perfecting his lighting skills for broadcast television. He has written, shot, and edited several short films winning multiple awards across the festival circuit all over the world. Not only has he had the opportunity to work on great films and television but he has also produced and created the lighting design for an off Broadway play of Edward Scissorhands.

 

Eddie Bernard: Camera Operator

Eddie Bernard grew up in New York City's Lower East Side. He has a Bachelor of Arts in TV/Film Production and graduated with Honors from Brooklyn College. He has received the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute 2010 and 2011 Scholar of the Year Award as well as the Telemundo Yearly Scholarship. Eddie currently works for AOL and has worked as a director, editor, producer and videographer for many organizations, including Abrons Arts Center, Nuyorican Poets Cafe, Madison Square Garden and MSNBC. Some of his recent film projects include Pillow Talk, The Buddy House, Dead Riser and The Rift.

 

Max Bernstein: Camera Operator & Editor

Max Bernstein was born and raised in Buffalo, NY where he received his BA in Media Studies from UB. Bernstein also received an MFA from UC Boulder. In addition, he is an associate of the Wooster Group, media designer for Kaki King, media designer for Michelle Ellsworth, a member of The Flinching Eye Collective, a member of Friends Of The TANK, and drummer and video designer of the band Eupana. Bernstein’s personal works combine elements of cinema, theater, sculpture, performance, and new media, often exploring contemporary notions of representation and phenomenology through experimental narrative and technology. He currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.

 
Rebecca Hadley, Project Coordinator

Rebecca Hadley: Project Coordinator

Rebecca Hadley was born in southern California and lived there until moving to New York to attend Barnard College. She graduated in 2012 with a BA in dance, and has since been doing administrative work in the arts and dancing for The Bang Group, Pat Catterson, Garnet Henderson, Alex Rodabaugh, and in projects and workshops for the Merce Cunningham Trust.

Yael Shulman: Camera Operator

Yael Shulman was born to music industry parents in Hollywood, California in 1979, and raised in New York City. Yael's visual style has been described as intuitive. Yael's approach is to always push visual boundaries and take a video to the next level. Yael loves telling great stories. Whether Yael is behind the lens or cutting a video, storytelling is everything. Yael currently works as a freelance cinematographer and camera operator for films, commercial and branded content, documentaries, live and multi-camera productions, web content and television. Yael's clients include: College Humor, CBS Sports, HBO, Showtime, WWD Content Studios, Complex, GQ, Island Records, CNBC Digital, PBS, Belvedere Vodka, First Day Films, American Ballet Theater and the Beggars Group. Yael's personal short films and feature film camera work has won numerous awards and has been screened at film festivals globally including The Cannes Film Festival's Short Film Corner, SXSW and The Tribeca Film Festival.

 

Christopher Young: Colorist & Post-Production

Chris was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and holds a BFA in Theatre from the University at Buffalo. He has worked as the senior editor and videographer on the critically acclaimed web series, Mondays with Merce for the Merce Cunningham Dance Company. His credits as a Colorist and an assistant editor for Broadcast TV include shows for networks such as Sundance, National Geographic, Animal Planet, and History Channel among others. He prides himself on combining precise attention to detail and creativity to create dynamic work.
